Skilled labor situation in the chemical industry
In 2024, a total of more than 71,000 vacancies in occupations relevant to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry could not be filled with suitably qualified unemployed persons. In the field of technology and maintenance in particular, there was a shortage of around 46,500 skilled workers, meaning that around half of all vacancies (53.3 percent) could not be filled. In production occupations, too, more than four out of ten vacancies (43.6 percent) could not be filled. In IT and software development occupations, there was a shortage of qualified workers for around one in three jobs (34.2 percent). The situation is significantly less tense in administration and logistics. In the research and laboratory field, there were no skilled worker shortages and all vacancies could be filled.
