In 2024, a total of more than 71,000 job openings in occupations relevant to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry could not be filled by unemployed individuals with the appropriate qualifications. In the field of engineering and maintenance in particular, there was a shortage of approximately 46,500 skilled workers, meaning that roughly one in two job openings (53.3 percent) could not be filled. In production occupations as well, more than four in ten job openings (43.6 percent) could not be filled. In IT and software development occupations, there was a shortage of qualified workers for about one in three positions (34.2 percent). The situation is significantly less tight in administration and logistics. In the research and laboratory sector, there were no skilled labor shortages, and all job openings were filled.
