According to a recent study by the Competence Center for Securing Skilled Labor (Kofa) at the employer-friendly German Economic Institute (IW), an average of around 10,300 positions remained unfilled in the industry between July 2023 and June 2024. The authors of the study explain the apparent contradiction by pointing out that the transformation of the industry requires specific job profiles. “Despite economically turbulent times, jobs remain unfilled in the automotive industry,” says study author Jurek Tiedemann. This is because the demand for skilled workers remains high due to changes in mobility and new technologies. “The industry urgently needs qualified personnel for the digital and ecological transformation.”
